Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra “Turkish Delights”, 16-17 August 2019 at Prince Mahidol Hall.

      Turkish Delights

When the renowned Turkish pianist Fazil Say began a second career as a composer, the world began to listen. Fazil Say composed his first violin concerto with the allusive title 1001 Nights in the Harem in 2008. The title is an allusion to the collection of oriental fairy tales, the “Arabian Nights”. The solo violin undertakes the role of the seductive, untiring storyteller, Scheherazade. The composer is adventurous in his atmospheric orchestral texture and the use of Turkish percussion instruments in bridging the gap between the music of his native country, elements of jazz and European art music.

      Friedemann Elchhorn
      Friedemann Elchhorn

Friedemann Eichhorn, violin professor at the Hochschule Franz Liszt in Weimar, is the soloist for this exciting new work slowly entering the violin repertory as a classic.

      Johannes Klumpp
      Johannes Klumpp

Following the intermission, visiting Maestro Johannes Klumpp leads the Thailand Phil in the propulsive rhythmic power of Prokofiev’s monumental Fifth Symphony.  Once heard, it’s never forgotten – Prokofiev’s masterpiece is at the heart of the 20th century’s symphonic repertoire.
